If you’re doing business in Australia and are looking to import or export equipment, TSL can help you out. We offer a fully comprehensive logistics service and can organise equipment shipping for you with zero hassle – and for a fantastic price. We deal with a wide range of machinery including agricultural tools, heavy machinery, power generation equipment and mining tools.

How Will My Equipment Be Shipped?

That depends! As a professional and well-connected freight forwarder with hundreds of subcontractors at its disposal, TSL is in a position to choose the optimum shipping method for your cargo. If it fits into a shipping container, great. If not, there are a number of other different ways your precious load can be prepared for sea freight forwarding.

Below is some of the terminology used in the sea freight forwarding world, and what it might mean to you if you’re gathering information about equipment shipping.

Shipping containers are 8ft wide, 8.5ft high and either 20ft or 40ft long. High-cube containers are the same but 9.5ft high rather than 8.5ft. These metal boxes are filled up with cargo then lifted onto the vessel with a crane.

Breakbulk refers to heavyweight cargo that is loaded individually onto a vessel rather than being placed in a shipping container first. This might be in RoRo (roll-on roll-off) carriers or it could be put on the ship in boxes, bags, crates, drums or barrels.

RoRo (roll-on roll-off) shipping is when your cargo is rolled or driven straight onto the vessel. It enters via a ramp and is then fastened securely before transportation. At the destination port, it can be quickly rolled or driven off and transported onwards by road.

Flat racks are shipping containers which do not have lids or sides. These are often used for items that don’t fit into regular shipping containers, for example trains or excavators.

Lift-on Lift-off (LoLo) is cargo that cannot be driven or towed onto a vessel, and is too bulky to fit into a shipping container. Cranes are used to lift the cargo onto the vessel at the port terminal.
